Man arrested after motorhome is stolen and recovered in less than 30 minutes

A man has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, after a motorhome was taken from an address in Bengeo.

Police were called at 1.55am today (11 September) to report that the vehicle had been taken off the driveway on Cowper Crescent.

After officers were dispatched, they located the vehicle on Old Highway in Hoddesdon, and following a pursuit, officers were able to detain a man after he decamped from the vehicle on Meadgate Road in Nazeing.

A 47-year-old man from Wormley was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and has since been released on bail while enquiries are continuing.

Inspector Chris Baker from the East Herts and Broxbourne Response Policing Team said: “Thanks to the swift actions of officers from Team 3, this stolen motorhome was recovered in less than 30 minutes, and a suspect was quickly identified and arrested.

“Vehicle crime can have a significant impact on victims, which is why we take reports of this nature extremely seriously and act quickly to locate stolen vehicles and those believed to be responsible.

“This result demonstrates the value of a rapid police response and the determination of officers to protect our communities and bring offenders to justice.

“Our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding this incident remain ongoing, and I would urge anyone who witnessed the theft or who has information that may assist our investigation to please get in touch.”
